Halloween is a day to be spooked, so I have a few scary things people are doing with their money, or lack thereof…
- Using payday loans. When you’re desperate, you’re desperate. But when something is nicknamed predatory lending, you know you wanna watch out. Pay day loans come with ridiculous interest rates and fees and people often get trapped by taking out additional short term loans to pay off the first ones.
- Auto title loans, a cousin to payday loans. Short term borrowing secured by your vehicle as collateral. Interest rates are HUGE and there’s all sorts of fees. Plus you risk losing your car if you can’t pay it back.
- Loaning money to friends and family. Admirable intentions, but risky. Obviously put everything in writing, but you still risk bitter feelings and lost friendships if things go wrong.
