It’s hard to say ‘no’ when your kids excitedly ask if they can start a new sport or music lessons. Before you know it, you’ve forked over $500 for the coming season. How can you avoid spending too much money? Ask your kids to pick their favorite activity and cut one or more of the others. Or try buying the equipment used to save a little money. If your student decides they want to play an instrument, trying renting it instead of buying it until you know your child is going to stick with it. Or you can ask your friends with older kids what treasures might be stowed in their garage or attic.
