It’s easier than ever to spend money on a whim thanks to mobile payment systems and sites that store your credit card info. So if you’re trying hard to keep more money in your pocket but it’s just not working…you have to identify and eliminate the triggers that cause you to spend. Be aware of your habits, such as whether you tend to make impulse purchases when you’re happy or sad. Keep in mind the things retailers use to get you to open your wallet: The BOGOs, the doorbusters, and even “how the store smells, the music that’s playing, and the location of certain items on the shelf. And try being patient. If you see something you like, make yourself wait. Even if it’s just 20 minutes or so. That’ll help you determine if it’s truly an impulse.
