If you’re doing a little more online shopping than normal, check in with yourself to make sure it all still aligns with your budget priorities. Of course, practicing good social distancing, a lot of people are buying a lot more of their families’ necessities online. Great! But if you notice it goes further than that and you start spending emotionally, it might be time for a breather. Excessive spending is often a way to avoid feeling certain emotions. Or to lean into them. If you check in with yourself before you go on a major spending spree, you may be able to identify if you’re feeling bored, lonely or stressed and are therefore spending money as a means to avoid the underlying emotion. A little splurge when you’re stressin’ is one thing…but make sure it’s more like one pair of shoes rather than a whole wardrobe.
