Lots of people are taking on some work outside their full-time job as a way to earn a little extra money. A ‘side hustle,’ right? That’s become a really popular term over the past couple years. Well, a moment of caution before you pour too much effort into it: The “gig” economy might not be cutting it after all.
New study out yesterday says the evidence is growing that over time, side hustles don’t deliver the financial returns many expect. Over the past two years, for example, pay for gig workers has dropped and many people choose gigs that can be seasonal but expect business to boom year-round. Experts aren’t warning you against it completely, they’re just cautioning you about your expectations.
