Did you know that hummingbirds like hostas? Did you know that hostas can be grown in shade and the sun? Right hosta, right place! Here are some Green Thumb Thursday tips about hostas from the experts at My Garden Nursery!
A couple of old standards for shade are:
•Sum & Substance – a big, light green hosta that some say is slug resistant.
•Patriot – a much smaller variety with bright white and deep green variegation.
•A new shade variety that you must see to believe is Wheee, an extremely ruffled and curly one.
Generally, hostas with gold or yellow leaves can take more sun, but most would prefer not to see the late afternoon sun.
At My Garden Nursery, we have a fantastic big, blue hosta planted in front of our store that, right now, is sporting big, pink flower balls that are actually alliums that we planted between. Our blue hosta gets sun most of the day and is happy as can be!
Arriving this week at My Garden Nursery, 2 new hostas: Munchkin Fire and Dancing with Dragons!
Don’t forget the Sluggo. The only thing who loves hostas more than hummingbirds is slugs. Sluggo can be used around pets and wildlife.
