GREEN THUMB THURSDAY: Veggies for Years!

Most vegetables we grow, like peas and tomatoes, have to be planted every year.  Not Asparagus!  It is a perennial veggie that you plant once and then you are able to eat from your garden for 20 years!

Because it is going to remain in the same location for a long time, it is key to spend time up front preparing the bed for planting.  Here’s a couple tips for lots of sweet tender asparagus:

Pick a sunny, well draining location in your garden where it can be left alone. Then, the hard part…the first year, do not give in to temptation and harvest any asparagus.

Fresh asparagus is so good! It isn’t anything like you get from the store.  It is so worth the wait!

Visit the experts at My Garden Nursery for the rest of the planting tips and tell your cashier Jenny sent you and they will give you a free asparagus crown to get started.

Have you ever seen pretty flowers frozen in ice cubes and wished you could do that? Now, you can when you stop by My Garden Nursery and pick up some borage, or starflower! It’s an easy, fast-growing, annual herb with vivid blue flowers and the flavor & scent of cucumbers.  Add them to salads or freeze into ice cubes!
