GREEN THUMB THURSDAY: The Most Important Tip!

Jenny and the experts at My Garden Nursery have a tip about the MOST IMPORTANT you can do for your plants…improve the soil!

Much of the soil in our area is very hard clay. You can improve it by adding a layer of soil building conditioner every year and adding compost to your native soil when you plant.

Another thing to do is to add Mychorrhizal fungi to the planting hole.  Mychorrhizal will help your plant take up water and fertilizer better.  It comes in a little package and is easy to use.

Another gardening trick is to use inoculant when planting peas, sweetpeas, or other legumes.  Mix into a slurry in a little bowl with water and then add your seeds to coat them.  Either wait an hour or so…or plant them right away.  The inoculant helps the plant most efficiently use nitrogen to produce leaves, flowers, and fruit.
