It’s Jenny from My Garden Nursery!
This week’s Green Thumb Thursday helps answer a BIG question: Why buy annuals when they only last one season?
That’s what makes them so special! Unlike perennials, which return year after year, but bloom for a much shorter time; annuals pour everything into one spectacular season, bursting with non-stop color from spring to frost. That’s three more months of color! Three more months for you and the pollinators.
To keep annuals thriving, give full sun to geraniums, petunias, zinnias, and lantana. You’ll need shade to part-shade for begonias, fuschias, and impatiens. Because we water annuals so often, they need regular feeding. Use a bloom-boosting fertilizer, like Jack’s or Espoma, to keep the flowers coming and deadhead as needed.
Annuals may only last one season, but what a show they put on! My Garden Nursery, on E. Bakerview in Bellingham, has lots of colorful annuals to add to your planters and garden right now. Get ready for compliments from your neighbors.
