It’s Jenny from My Garden Nursery with this week’s Green Thumb Thursday! One of the best perennials for pollinators is Perovski, also known as Russian Sage. It attracts butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds…and is hardy, drought tolerant and OK with poor soils and heat.
Deer will usually leave it alone because of the aromatic, grey-green leaves and white stems. Perovski grows to about 4′ tall and 4′ wide…BUT there are smaller varieties like Lacey Blue. Another variety to try is Blue Jean Baby. It blooms a bit earlier than the others and stays a bit shorter.
Plant Russian Sage in a sunny location in the landscape. No need to pamper or fertilize. From summer to early-fall, the blue flowers are beautiful waving in the wind against the grey backdrop and of course Perovski is available at My Garden Nursery!
