Hey, it’s Tony at My Garden Nursery – the fun, colorful garden center with the purple flamingoes!
Did you know October is the best time to plant garlic bulbs in your garden in the Pacific Northwest? Planting it this time of year gives it time to develop strong roots before freezing temps set in, ensuring a wonderful harvest next summer.
The two types of garlic are hard and soft neck. Hard neck garlic like Chesnok Red and Music produces larger cloves, but less in the bulb, robust flavor, is cold hardy, stores for 3-6 months, and has a tough inner neck. Soft neck garlic, like Inchelium Red and Messidor, grow smaller cloves, but more of them in the bulb, mild flavor, less cold hardy, stores 9-12 months, and has a flexible neck allowing it to be braided.
A single garlic clove is packed with beneficial nutrients and properties to help fight off the common cold and flu. Eating garlic regularly helps lower bad cholesterol and high blood pressure…plus improves your blood flow.
Come check out our great selection of hard and soft neck bulbs and our incredible staff will be here to help if you need advice on how to grow it.
And, don’t forget, starting October 3rd, stop by and vote for your favorite scarecrows that will be on display throughout My Garden and enter your name in the drawing.
Happy planting!
