Just because summer is over, it doesn’t mean you can’t continue to have a colorful and welcoming porch to greet you and friends when you arrive home.
Many of the so-called annuals that people plant in the fall are actually perennials. Perennials are the plants that come back year after year. Asters and mums are both long-blooming, hardy plants with super colorful flowers that scream fall. Add some ferns, hellebores or Brunners…and don’t forget pansies. Pansies reseed quite easily and very often you will see them the following year the same colors and sometimes even in new locations.
Kale and cabbage can add texture to your planters and will even flower, but they are not perennial. We like to add a few pumpkins or gourds to our planters. And right now, My Garden Nursery has the most adorable pumpkin and corn stakes with cutest little smiles to add to your planters.
