Looking for ways to keep the weeds down? Plant ground covers. Here’s a few the experts at My Garden Nursery recommend…and a few they don’t.
2 hearty evergreens are rubus and knickinnick. Plant them 1′ to 2′ on center. Rubus, carpet raspberry helps with erosion control. Both options have berries.
Thyme is perfect for planting in between stepping stones. Choose from Wooly, Wine and Rose, silver or white thyme! You can add some color and contrast to your garden with Black Scallop ajuga or Platt’s Black brass buttons.
A couple groundcovers to stay away from are Aegopodium and Houttuynia. Eventhough their variegation can be pretty, they are highly invasive. Another plant I recommend not using as a ground cover is ivy. It makes a nice house plant but is too aggressive for the garden.
