Garlic is one of the easiest food crops. More garlic means more garlic bread, garlic shrimp, spaghetti, pesto, 40 garlic chicken, and more. Plus, no vampires!
Garlic does not like competition, so keep the area clear of weeds. If you listen to Nancy and your cover crop is growing, then till it in and keep turning over until dead and broken brown. Add some compost and bone meal.
Separate your clove into bulbs after removing the thin, paper cover. Then, plant the garlic cloves, pointy-side up, about 3-4 inches deep about 6-8 inches apart. Water well.
If your planting different types, be sure to label them so you can figure out your favorite. Harvest in June-mid July and then plant your cover crop so you’re ready to start all over again.
