If you’ve always wanted to grow your own fresh herbs, but don’t know where to start, the experts at My Garden Nursery have some GREAT tips to help you out!
Herbs like lavender, sage, rosemary, and thyme come back year after year, unlike parsley, basil and cilantro, which we plant annually.
Here are a few quick herb tips:
-Wait until mid-May to plant basil and harvest it often. Pesto and Margharita pizza will be yours before May is over.
-Cilantro tends to bolt. Try succession planting every 3 weeks. Harvest your cilantro regularly and remove any flowers before they open. When your cilantro bolts, and it will, leave the flowers on the plant and then you’ll have coriander seeds which you can use in salads or soups or let them dry and grind them up as the spice.
-Plant mint in a container or it will take over any bed you plant it in and then move on to your neighbor’s.
