Hey, this is Tony at My Garden Nursery…the fun, friendly, colorful garden center with the purple flamingoes!
Gardening with conifers is a great way to add year-round interest, structure, color, and texture to any landscape. Conifers are evergreen trees and shrubs, that keep their foliage through the seasons, making gardens look vibrant even in winter when deciduous plants have gone dormant and lost their leaves.
One of their biggest advantages is low maintenance. Once established, many conifers are drought-tolerant and require little pruning. They also come in a wide variety of shapes, from tall and narrow, short and globe shape, to low and spreading, allowing gardeners to create depth and contrast in their design.
Conifers can be used as focal points, privacy screens, or background plants that highlight seasonal flowers. Their different shades of green, blue, and gold also help create visual interest without relying on blooms.
Fun fact…did you know the oldest living plant in the world is a 4800-year-old Bristlecone Pine living in the White Mountains of California?
By thoughtfully incorporating conifers, gardeners can build landscapes that are not only attractive, but also resilient, balanced, and beautiful throughout the entire year.
