Hey, it’s Tony from My Garden Nursery – the fun, friendly garden center with the purple flamingoes!
The word “Bonsai,” when broken down, is translated from Japanese with “bon” meaning tray, shallow bowl, or container…and “sai,” which means to plant or cultivate. Essentially, it is a beautiful, ancient, horticultural art form to grow trees in shallow planters with artistic shaped results. The goal is to create a miniature replica of what would be a larger, full-grown tree, if allowed to grow in its natural habitat.
The art of Bonsai has been around for over 1,000 years. Any perennial tree or shrub with true branches can be used to create a bonsai…you just need your imagination what you want it to look like in the future. Popular plants chosen are Juniper, Japanese Maple, Pine, Chamaecyparis, Chinese Elm and Ginko for outdoor bonsai…and ficus for indoor ones.
My Garden Nursery has one of the largest selections of bonsai plants, starters, pots, books, and accessories north of Seattle…and it’s right in your backyard!
On October 24th & 25th, My Garden Nursery is hosting a Bonsai Exhibit with local bonsai experts who will be on hand to show customers their beautiful creations. They’ll speak on different topics throughout the day and answer questions you might have. We’ll be providing a variety of products to help you get started on your way to create your own stunning living art form.
