Hey, it’s Tony at My Garden Nursery – the fun, colorful garden center with the purple flamingoes!
Fall is the perfect time to visit My Garden Nursery if you’re looking for the right plant to add that spectacular splash of color in your yard. While the season may be winding down and plants are getting ready to go dormant for the winter, there are some great varieties to choose that will brighten up your landscape. Here are a few of my favorites:
Acer, or Maples: They come in many sizes, shapes, and forms like Japanese ones with its beautiful yellow, orange red to scarlet color palette. The much larger Autumn Blaze grows up to 50 feet in height with a fall color ranging from orange red to deep crimson.
Ginkgos are a fascinating and stunning tree. They are known to have been around for over 100 million years, are highly adaptable, and pollution tolerant. Their unique fan shape leaf turns a brilliant golden yellow in fall.
Cornus, or Dogwood, trees and shrubs are known for their beautiful, large, colorful flowers in the spring, but also provide lovely yellow, orange, red, and purple leaves in the fall. Some varieties also grow colorful, large berries, adding to the fall interest as well as food for birds.
Cercidiphylum, or Katsura, trees grow attractive, heart-shaped leaves that turn shades of yello, orange, and pinkish-red in the fall. An added bonus is the sweet fragrance sometimes produced by falling Katsura leaves that has been compared to cotton candy, cinnamon, or caramel.
There are so many more to choose from, so come visit us to see these and the other great varieties we have on hand.
