Instead of going out and buying an expensive gift for someone, give the gift of service instead.  For new parents, give an evening of babysitting as a gift.  If you know pet owners, offer to take care of their pets when they travel.  Offer up some lawn care as a gift to a new homeowner.  These are great gifts for everyone and won’t cost you a dime.
