While it’s true that nothing is truly “free” (there is the cost of your time to consider), it often makes sense to do yourself what you would normally pay others to do for you. This includes everything from haircuts to lawn care to accounting and tax preparation. If you have an abundance of free time (ha!), spend it on DIY and avoid shelling out money for stuff that you have the skills for.  Or shell out just a few dollars for a book or manual on the topic and teach yourself, you’ll pay just a fraction of the cost of getting the work done for you and you’ll learn something new in the process!
