How to cope with extreme financial stress

Fresh outta holiday spending has a lot of people feeling stressed about money. According to a recent study, three out of four Americans feel that today’s fast-paced society makes it tougher for them to focus and remain on track when it came to achieving long-term goals.

A few tips to help you cope with extreme financial stress.

  1. Re-think how you think about debt–Forgive yourself for past financial mistakes and focus on using them to your advantage for future goals.
  2. Watch out for depression–If money-related stress, anxiety or negative feelings end up taking over your day, take a “time out” and reach out to someone you can trust, or seek help from a therapist or counselor.
  3. Get help with spending problems—If you think you have a spending addiction, get help from groups like Debtor’s Anonymous. If you need help with setting financial goals, talk to a local financial advisor or money manager
