Stop being so brand loyal! It’s costing you lots of money! A real life example from the not so distant past…
I went to the grocery store to pick up a few things after work. I noticed that the store was having some pretty good buy one, get one free deals. Went to get a couple rolls of paper towels because they had both Sparkle and Brawny paper towel single rolls on sale for buy one get one free. So first of all, I never buy single rolls because it’s like the most expensive way…always buy the multi pack. But since they were buy one get one free, I made an exception and picked up a couple rolls of Sparkle. The single rolls were $2.29…but they were buy one get one free…so I got two rolls for $2.29. While I’m standing there…this guy comes up next to me and throws two rolls of full priced Bounty paper towels into his cart and keeps on walking. The Bounty paper towels were $2.89 per roll. After standing there with my mouth open for a few seconds…I literally was THIS close to chasing after him to make sure he knew that both the Sparkle and Bounty paper towels were buy one get one free. But I didn’t want to be that crazy lady in the store. So, he paid almost SIX DOLLARS for two single rolls of paper towels…and I paid $2.29 for two. The lesson here…Don’t absentmindedly pick up your favorite brand every time! Take a second to see if one is on sale! If the price difference is small…go for your favorite. But watch out, being brand loyal is costing you!
