This week, Jenny at My Garden Nursery talked to Lynn about how to have the best Japanese Maples in your yard.
First, Lynn gives her three favorite types of Japanese Maple:
-Acer Palmatum Sekka yatsubusa, a green-leafed upright maple with lots of twists and curls.
-Acer Palmatum Twombly’s Red Sentinel, great for narrow spaces since it grows to be about 12′ tall and only 5′ wide.
-Acer Palmatum Summer Gold, leaves start green with reddish margins that turn gold in the summer.
When planting, keep these tips in mind:
-Most importantly, maples must be planted in well-drained soil.
-Use starter fertilizer, soil amendment, and an exciting new product, bio-fungecide soil drench containing beneficial bacteria.
