I know this might come as a shock to you…but it turns out we don’t know everything when it comes to social media. I know, I know. But, it’s true. Think you do? Check out this advice from teenagers and see if you’re as hip as you think you are! Here’s seven rules to be ‘cool’ online:
1. Keep an eye on your “following” to “followers” ratio. Wanna be cool? You should have at least twice as many followers as people you’re following.
2. Use hashtags…but only ironically. And no more saying “Throwback Thursday.” Apparently it’s just not cool.
3. Don’t make long videos…and don’t post too many. Like if you’re at a big event, don’t post 35 videos to the same Snapchat Story. (Um, what’s a Snapchat Story??)
4. Don’t post boring photos. If you’re just laying around the house, it doesn’t belong online! Only post photos when you’re out doing something fun.
5. Don’t end your posts with too many emojis. The max before you reach ‘uncool’ is three emojis per post.
6. Don’t post photos of food. If you do, just don’t do it too often.
7. Don’t post too many selfies. Make sure there are other people in the photos so you look like you have friends.
