The Whatcom Museum campus including the Lightcatcher Building, Family Interactive Gallery, Old City Hall, and Syre Education Center are closed beginning March 16th until further notice.

The following are upcoming events of interest at Whatcom Museum in March 2020. Click the link of each event for more information, including location and fees.

Family Activity Day: Our Shared Stories, March 14th from 10am-3pm at The Lightcatcher. Celebrate the art of storytelling this spring with a Family Activity Day. Bring your family and friends to explore our unique identity and sense of place with craft projects, performances, story sharing, and more.

Toward a More Perfect Democracy Lecture Series: Imperfect Democracy, March 19th from 5:30-7:30pm at Old City Hall. The Whatcom Museum is partnering with the League of Women Voters and the Ralph Munro Institute of Civic Education to offer presentations on the third Thursday of each month, from March through June, focusing on the continued struggle for suffrage, voice, and equal representation by those who were left out of the 19th Amendment.

Felted, Sculpted Hat Workshop with Flóra Carlile-Kovács, March 22nd from 10am-5pm at The Lightcatcher. Make your very own felted, sculpted hat in this day-long workshop, taught by noted felt artist Flóra Carlile-Kovács. $100 members/$120 non-members (includes $20 materials fee).

Fourth Sundays: Audubon at the Museum, March 22nd from 1:30-2:30pm at Old City Hall. Join volunteers from the North Cascades Audubon Society in the John M. Edson Hall of Birds to learn about migration, conservation, birds in peril, and the importance of studying bird specimens today.

Washington’s Undiscovered Feminists with Mayumi Tsutakawa, March 23rd from 7-8pm at Old City Hall.  In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, writer and curator Mayumi Tsutakawa presents five “woman warriors” in the arts and journalism from the past century whose stories inspire.

Deadly Deception: The Plight of Birds and Plastic Pollution, March 24th from 7-9pm at Old City Hall. Learn about the innumerable hazards of discarded plastic to the survival of birds including absorption of toxic pollutants, entanglement from discarded fishing gear and other plastic, and consumption of plastic particles.

Low Sensory Sunday, March 29th from 10-11:30am at The Lightcatcher. Designed for children ages 12 and younger with autism spectrum and other sensory-processing disorders. The program offers a safe, dedicated morning for children and their families in the Family Interactive Gallery (FIG). Trained staff will have tools to support each visit, including noise-canceling headphones, sensory maps, and more.
