Bellingham High School presents “Footloose: The Musical,” a lively, heartwarming story about overcoming fear, embracing change, and the transformative power of music and dance!
This stage adaptation of the 1984 hit film is set in the small, conservative town of Bomont. The story follows Ren McCormack (Merlin Walther), a teenager who moves from bustling Chicago to this quiet community with his mother (Linc Lyons). Ren soon discovers that Bomont is bound by strict laws, including a ban on dancing, enacted by the town’s moralistic Reverend Shaw Moore (Masha Goggin) after a tragic car accident claimed the lives of four teenagers, including the reverend’s son.
Ren struggles to fit in at his new high school but befriends the rebellious Ariel Moore (Mia Hall), the reverend’s outspoken daughter, and Willard Hewitt (Finn Sandwith), a shy but good-hearted local boy.
Determined to bring joy back to the town and challenge the oppressive rules, Ren rallies the local teens to fight the ban on dancing. Along the way, he inspires the town to confront their fears, heal from their collective grief, and rediscover the joy of self-expression.
The musical features iconic songs from the film, including “Footloose,” “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” and “Almost Paradise,” along with new songs written for the stage adaptation.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students & seniors. Tickets are available in advance or at the door. This musical is rated PG-13.
