Every January, the Community Consortium for Cultural Recognition honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a day of reflection and service. This year’s MLK event is at Sehome High School, Monday, January 19th, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The theme is “Mission Possible: Moving, Building, Uniting.” The event is free and open to all-ages. There will be multiple age-appropriate spaces for the community to reflect on Dr. King’s teachings through volunteerism, advocacy, and uplifting marginalized voices.

- 10:00 AM Community hot breakfast in Commons
- 11:00 AM Event starts with speakers, workshops, & hands on activities
- 12:00 PM Event ends and is followed by service projects
(reservation required for work parties) - 2:00 PM Event ends.
The event is free to attend, and the hot breakfast is included. There is also a food and hygiene drive, and attendees are encouraged to bring unopened, non-perishable food and hygiene items to donate at the event.
The Whatcom YMCA is offering free “Child-watch” (childcare) for attendees from 11am-12:30pm for ages 4-9. Children are welcome to participate in the activities including breakfast, opening, and service portions of the day. While larger activities occur, kids will be supervised by YMCA staff with age-appropriate games and activities.
