I am thankful for Patience. Some people test it, and children will push it, but with age I am thankful for having more than most. I wish I could share some with others.

It may seem strange to be grateful to a couple of gun-toting thieves but, this Thanksgiving, I am grateful to them, in a back-handed sort of way. More, I am thanking the angel on my son's shoulder. Very late one evening, my son was thirsty & went to the store to buy something to drink. As the local store was closed, he went to another store. On his way, 2 young men, one of whom had a gun, demanded his wallet & cell phone. They took his cash but left his credit & debit cards, as well as his military ID and driver's license. This is significant as the military ID card has the SSNs of both the sponsor and the owner of the card. Then, they did not destroy his phone and it was later found & returned. You may ask why I am grateful to the thieves, even in a back-handed sort of way. First, they did not take his IDs or bank cards, which did not make the situation worse: identity theft is a concern. Second, they did not destroy the cell phone when they could not use it as service was suspended immediately. Mostly, and most important, I am grateful that they did not cause my son any physical harm. They could have easily shot him or hurt him because he did not have much cash; this is not unheard of. The physical items they took can easily be replaced but my son's life cannot be. He was naturally upset and traumatized & it will take time for him to feel safe in that neighborhood again. However, the angel on my son's shoulder kept him safe and will help him to heal emotionally. So, on this day on which we give thanks, I will thank the angel on my son's shoulder for keeping him safe and those on the shoulders of those misguided young men. Those angels worked their magic and kept these persons from causing more harm. I will pray that they seek another path before it is too late. Perhaps next year, their families will be thankful that these young men have chosen another path. It could happen. =)

Over the years i've spent alot of time dreaming about what it would be like to be rich. I'm a low income single mom, so money has always been tight for me. I've often prayed that God would bless me with enough money to make my life a little easier, but so far it hasn't happened. I always say I guess we don't always get what we want, but I always seem to get what I need. My son is now 14 and has been a blessing for me. He is a good student, a good athlete, and a good person. I wonder if he would have turned out as well if his lifestyle had been different? We have had to work hard and go without over the years. He has actively fundraised to help pay for his sports and saved Christmas and birthday money to pay for clothes, movies, etc. I know many kids his age who have had everything handed to them. Because they didn't have to work as hard for what they have, they don't seem to appreciate anything. I would like say that i'm thankful for the life that I have been blessed with. It wasn't always what I asked for, but it has made my son and me appreciate all that we have.
