WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) has announced a major expansion in its bus routes for next summer.
WTA’s Board of Directors recently approved service changes that will impact riders in Bellingham, Birch Bay and the Lummi Nation.
WTA says there will be more frequent stops on routes that serve what it deems “priority populations and key destinations,” including areas with new affordable housing developments.
The Lummi Nation, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Hospital, the Lighthouse Mission and Bellingham Airport will all see increased service as a result of the changes.
WTA is also adding a new route to Bellingham’s King Mountain Neighborhood six days a week. And the temporary routes to the Bellingham waterfront that were introduced in September will become a permanent fixture with increased trips.
Meanwhile, several stops will see decreased service, including Birch Bay Village, the Cornwall Park Neighborhood and East Bakerview Road between Guide Meridian and Deemer Road.
The new route schedules will take effect on June 15, 2025.
