WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Whatcom County Treasurer’s office says second half property taxes are due by Thursday, Oct. 31.

They say that taxpayers are responsible for making sure their payments are mailed or postmarked by the due date in order to avoid interest or penalties.

People are cautioned against making payments online as the site does not have postmark dates and will be considered late if they are not received on time.

Delinquent taxes will be penalized up to 1% interest per month beginning Nov. 1.

If taxes are not paid by Dec. 1, an additional penalty of 8% may be imposed.

The treasurer’s office says there are multiple ways people can pay property taxes. Taxpayers can pay online with an electronic check that has a $1.00 convenience fee per transaction. Alternately, a $3.50 flat fee will be applied to any Visa or MasterCard debit cards. Credit card will be subject to a 2.35% of taxes paid fee with a $2.00 minimum.

Taxes can also be paid via an automated telephone system using the number 855-461-9815. Convenience fees will apply.
You may be eligible for a property tax exemption if you fit the following criteria: you are over 60 years of age or retired due to disability, own your primary residence and have an income of $52,000 or less. You can contact the Whatcom County Assessor’s office at 360-778-5050 for more information.
