Washington state awards over $2 million to new outdoor recreation facilities in Whatcom County

WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Over $2 million has been awarded for new outdoor recreation facilities east of Bellingham.

The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) announced that two grants from their Community Outdoor Athletic Facilities program are heading to eastern Whatcom County.

Over $810,000 is heading to the Nooksack School District to install artificial turf on the high school campus. Nearly $1.2 million is heading a short distance away to the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center.

They will be constructing an athletic court for basketball, volleyball and other court-based sports.

The East Whatcom Regional Resource Center will also install a roof over the court so that it can be used year-round for athletics as well as other community events.
