WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A burn ban has been issued for parts of Whatcom County effective immediately.
The Northwest Clean Air Agency (NWCAA) says the Stage 2 burn ban is in effect for the Columbia Valley area, which includes Peaceful Valley and Paradise Lakes.
Under the stage 2 ban, both indoor and outdoor wood burning are prohibited. The only exception to the ban is if a wood stove is the sole source of heat for a home.
NWCAA says that a high-pressure system is preventing harmful wood smoke particles from clearing out. They anticipate the burn ban will remain in effect for a few days until the weather changes.
