BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Port of Bellingham has received over $1.5 million in federal funds to work towards eco-friendly projects.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that six ports in Washington state were the recipients of their Clean Ports Program.

In total, over $104 million is being spread throughout the state and Whatcom County is seeing some of the money.

According to the EPA, $1,525,892 will be used to build on significant emissions inventories and planning work. It will also be used to develop a port-wide energy transition action plan with focus on resiliency and long-term emissions reductions. The funds come from the Inflation Reduction Act.

U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen said in a statement that Northwest Washington ports now have the funding needed to work toward a more sustainable, zero-emission future.

In a statement released Wednesday, Oct. 30, Port of Bellingham Executive Director Rob Fix said that the Port has secured over $75 million in state and federal grant funding over the last couple of years in order to pursue this goal.
