BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Dogs from across northwest Washington gathered at the Whatcom Humane Society for this year’s Dog Days of Summer Festival for an afternoon of treats, poop bags and on-leash activities.

For four hours, dogs from all walks of life were able to mingle, compete in contests and dig for treats in “Hound Hill” – a tradition of the Whatcom Humane Society to bury treats, tennis balls and more in a big pile of dirt.

KAFE’s Dave Walker was at the event with his dog, Dexter. Walker was in need of a new pup around the house when he met Dexter, who at the time was an 8-week-old puppy that the Whatcom Humane Society found in a ditch on the Lummi Reservation. 13 years later, Dexter is happier than ever with his best pal Dave as the two of them do just about everything together.
