BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new housing project is in the works after the former Bellingham winter shelter was demolished this week.

Crews demolished the former State Street Creamery building on North State Street with plans to replace the structure.

Developer RJ Group plans to build a six-story 111-unit apartment building with commercial space on the first floor. 50 parking spaces in a structured parking area in addition to nearly as much street parking will accompany over 60 bicycle parking spaces for the new building.

Titled after the building it replaces, the State Street Creamery Project will not have any low-income housing units.

According to permit documents, units are planned to vary from studios to one- and two-bedroom apartments.
