WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Election season is finally over and there are a ton of fun things to do this weekend in Whatcom County and beyond to celebrate and/or get your head straight.

First up is Ciderfest at Bellewood Farms on Saturday, Nov. 9, where local cideries will be on hand with their unique and tasty creations. It’s a fun event with delicious food, a homebrew competition, and raffle prizes.

Ciderfest is limited to 350 attendees with tickets priced at $35 per person. Ciderfest runs from noon to 5 p.m. If they do sell out for Ciderfest, fear not. Head on out to Bellewood anyway to enjoy everything “fall” from apples, baked goods, their distillery tastings and a whole lot more.

We were chatting a little while back on the KGMI Morning News about taking advantage of the off season to visit the San Juan Islands. This weekend, you can head out to Eastsound on Orcas Island for Hops on the Rock. All your favorite breweries, cideries and wineries will be there, plus there will be live music, food and island style fun.

It’s a 21 plus event and no dogs are allowed. So, book a ferry or a flight from BLI and spend this wet weekend all cozied up under a massive outdoor tent. This event highlights everything you love about the Pacific Northwest. Hops on the Rock runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the rest of the island is open 24/7. Just be sure to pack your raincoat and some waterproof shoes.

Speaking of beer. Big shout out to all the breweries that took home medals at this year’s Washington Beer Awards. We don’t have time to shout out everyone who won, but this year’s big winner was one of Whatcom County’s newest breweries: Larrabee Lager Company. They won four medals and were named Small Brewery of the Year. So, head out to Cordata and check them out for sure.

Switching gears here, why not take advantage of the wet weather to get a head start on some holiday shopping? It’s the 42nd annual Holiday Bazaar at Bellingham Covenant Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 50 local vendors will offer a wide variety of handmade items: crafts, jewelry, artwork, clothing, unique gifts, and more. Plus, there will be a delicious bake sale fundraiser for local charities.

It’s a free event with plenty of parking. Bellingham Covenant Church has a really nice facility at 150 East Bakerview Road. Go to their website for all the details, that’s bellinghamcov.org.

Our featured live show this week is down at the Shakedown on Saturday and it’s going to be a banger. Check it out.

Cardiel is a two-piece rock band from Mexico City. Drummer Samantha Ambrosio and guitarist/vocalist Miguel Fraino, who are both from Venezuela, will rock the stage with their brand of stoner metal infused punk rock. What better way to push back against the oppression of an authoritarian regime than playing a little heavy metal rock and roll, right?

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro likely won’t be in attendance, but a bunch of pretty cool people likely will.  Cardiel is playing with Duos and Old Town Scouts. The show starts at 9 p.m.

Have fun and stay safe out there!
