WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Be careful of high winds off the coast of Whatcom County this evening into early Friday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a gale warning that’s in effect for the San Juan Islands through 5 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.

Wind speeds could reach up to 35 knots during that time.

The strong winds will make for rough waters that could capsize or damage watercrafts, while also making it harder to see.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management adds that the gale warning could impact the coastal communities of Whatcom County.

Residents with boats in marinas are advised to secure their vessels and those who live on the coast to be ready for high winds.
