JOHNS CREEK, Georgia — Western Washington University men’s golfer Mark Strickland was unable to make the cut and did not advance to match play after shooting a round of 7-over par 79 in second-day action Tuesday at the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship being held at the Atlanta Athletic Club Highlands Course.

Strickland, who is entering his senior season for the Vikings, finished with a 36-hole score of 12-over 155. The cut was made at 145.

On Tuesday, Strickland shot 1-over on the front nine and 6-over on the back nine where he recorded his only birdie of the round.

The 22-year-old Strickland from Mukilteo and a graduate of Kamiak High School qualified for the national event by earning medalist honors with an even par 36-hole score of 140 at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier on July 22 at Suncadia Resort’s Tumble Creek Club in Cle Elum.
Strickland was a second-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-star for WWU last spring after earning first-team honors the previous season when he helped the Vikings to the NCAA Division II national semifinals.
