BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Pot, water, and population are on Whatcom County Council’s agenda, today.

The council will consider rules on where to allow marijuana businesses.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s office wants to make sure it’ll be able to patrol areas where pot shops will be located.

The county currently has a 60-day moratorium on marijuana applications.

The council will also look at a proposal to prioritize the many water-related issues it has to deal with.

Council member Carl Weimer wants a water action plan that would cover things like Lake Whatcom phosphorus, water rights and new wells.

In addition, the council will hold a public hearing on population projections.

It includes a proposal from council member Ken Mann that would force cities to acquire development rights from rural areas before they’re allowed to increase their growth boundaries.

Committee meetings are held throughout the day and the regular evening meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Whatcom County Courthouse.
