Tire flies off county truck hits woman

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A woman was badly hurt when a tire came off a Whatcom County truck and hits her in a bizarre accident Tuesday.

Whatcom County Public Works Director Frank Abart says a county employee was driving a truck they use for maintaining signs.

The employee was driving down Birch Bay – Lynden Road when the driver’s side rear wheel came off of the truck.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Her current condition is not available.

Abart says he doesn’t know what caused the wheel to come off.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s office and Washington State Patrol are investigating.
