Seahawk corner Richard Sherman will be the latest cover athlete for the Madden video game franchise. The defensive back will grace the cover of “Madden NFL 15” which will be available on August 15th. Sherman got the cover through a bracket contest that was decided by the voting of fans on ESPN.com. In the first round Sherman, the number one seed, shut down Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery then got by Saints tight end Jimmy Graham in round two. By downing 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in round three, it set up the Championship versus Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Sherman received 56% of the 661,412 votes to become the cover boy.

“Winning the cover is a kid’s dream come true,” Sherman said. “I would never be in the position without my fellow Legion of Boom members and teammates.”

According to Terry Blount of ESPN.com Sherman becomes the second Seahawks player to get the cover, as Shaun Alexander had the honor in 2007. Blount continues, “Sherman is only the third defensive player to make the cover, joining Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis in 2005 and Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu, who shared the 2010 cover with Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.”
