Mariner recall Roenis Elias from AAA Tacoma

The Seattle Mariners have recalled left-handed pitcher Roenis Elias from AAA Tacoma. Elias will be the starter for tonight’s game against the Phillies in Philadelphia. Outfielder James Jones was optioned to Tacoma following yesterday’s game in Detroit. Making the announcement today was Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik.

Elias made one start for AAA Tacoma on Aug. 13 in New Orleans. He threw 5 no-hit innings while striking out six. Elias had been optioned to the minors after earning the win on Aug. 7 vs. the White Sox.

Jones has hit .256 with 39 runs with 20 stolen bases in 21 attempts in 83 games over three stints with the Mariners this season. In his most recent 8-game stint with AAA Tacoma is hitting .257.
