The 1A and 2A prep basketball state tournament gets underway today in Yakima. As four teams from Whatcom County are vying for State titles.
Lynden vs. Port Angeles girls
On the girls side, the Lynden Lions (18-7) won their opener this morning beating Port Angeles 53-52 on KPUG. The Lions found themselves in an early hole down 13-2 after the first quarter. The Lions shot just 10% in the first half. But Lynden rallied back in the second half to take their first lead of the game with 3.3 seconds left when Lion Ashlyn Morgan hit a pair of free throws to ice the game.
With the win, Lynden advances to the semi-finals tomorrow against W.F. West at 3:35pm on KPUG.
Lynden Christian vs Granger girls
It was another game and another win for the Lynden Chrisitan girls, as LC dominated Granger from start to finish defeating the Spartans 63-40. The Lyncs, 23-3, were lead by guard Kara Bajema’s 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Lynden Christian was also got 13 points from Sally Vlas’s and Karley DeJager added 12 points.
With the victory, the Lyncs advance to the 1A semi-finals and will face the Cashmere Bulldogs on Friday at 7:15pm on KPUG.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in 1A, have already beat Lynden Christian this season in December at the Cloud 9 Christmas Classic at Lynden Christian High School.
The Blaine Borderite girls basketball continues to their journey to a state championship by defeating the Mabton Vikings, 43-27, in quarterfinal action at the 1A Hardwood Classic.
