Turns out grandma’s way to handle money still works. People used to always use cash envelopes to control their monthly spending, but very few do in today’s card-swiping culture.
How do you start? First come up with a budget and create your categories like food, gas, clothing, entertainment, etc. Then, when you get your paycheck, fill each envelope with the money you’ve allotted for it in your budget. Here comes the hard part…When it’s gone, it’s gone! Once you’ve spent the money in that envelope, you can’t spend any more money on that category for the month.
Give it time. It will take a few months to perfect your system; don’t give up if it’s not clicking. You may need to make minor adjustments along that way.
