Organized Bride Spring Bridal Show

Wings Over Water Birding Festival

Joe Meche, pictured above, is a writer and photographer who has been watching birds for over 60 years.  He currently serves as the North Cascades Institute’s Birding Programs Coordinator. He has written more than 100 articles for Whatcom Watch as well as a monthly column about birds, Beaks and Bills.  He has been a featured speaker at Wings Over Water Birding Festival for the last 13 years.  Joe will also be offering a digiscoping class as well as a presentation on Baja Birding, at the 13th annual Wings Over Water Festival


Dance Gallery’s 24th Annual Spring Concert

Local performing group Dance Gallery’s 24th annual spring concert will feature dance works by local and national choreographers at 7:30 p.m., March 13 and 14 and at 5 p.m., March 15 at the Firehouse Performing Arts Centerin Fairhaven. There is a special $5 student and family preview at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11.

The concert will include the premiere of a piece by Seattle-based dancer/choreographer Wade Madsen, a dance professor at Cornish College of the Arts. Other guest artists include Western Washington University dance instructor Susan Haines, dancer/choreographer Nancy Cranbourne of Boulder, Colo., and Jianna Zhang of Bellingham Silk Road Dancers.

The event includes a silent auction to raise funds for the non-profit arts group. A free reception after the Sunday, March 15, performance at the Firehouse will feature refreshments and is open to the public.

WeSNiP (Whatcom Education Spay & Neuter Impact Program) is in its 6th year providing free and low-cost spay and neuter services and support to Whatcom County.  This non-profit organization works with underserved communities who might not otherwise be able to afford these surgeries.

Kiwanis Club of Bellingham Theatre Night and Auction

The Kiwanis Club of Bellingham is presenting its annual Theatre Night and Auction on Thursday, April 16th. This all takes place at the Bellingham Theatre Guild at 1600 H Street in Bellingham. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and price of admission is $20 per person or 2 for $36.00. There will be a silent auction preceding the event. Funds raised by this event will benefit our community with particular emphasis on youth and children’s programs.

San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour

The San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour is a free self-guided tour from 10am-5pm on June 6th & 7th. Hundreds of people attend this free event every year!

With a mixture of prints, paintings, ceramics, glass, jewelry, photography, sculpture, and fiber, the professional artists open their doors and welcome the public to see where art is created and explain their processes. This is a chance to purchase art at the source, often before the art is shown in national art shows and galleries. Visitors will gain a greater knowledge and clearer understanding of both the artist and their media.  The tour is a free event of art, guest musicians, lovely gardens, and a raffle for art at each studio. Maps and brochures are available at and at many businesses in Friday Harbor.

Bellingham KIDS Traverse

Get the kids hooked on the Vacationland RV Bellingham KIDS Traverse, a fun relay race that celebrates the journey of wild salmon. 6 – 12 year olds form SOLO (Chinook), TANDEM (Coho), or RELAY TEAMS (Chum) to run, bike and compete on an obstacle course through Bellingham’s Civic Field. The course is comprised of a 1 mi. Run, 1.5 mi. Mountain Bike, .5 Obstacle Course, .25 Team TREK = Total 3.25 mi.

Top 3 finishers in each age group get awards and all finishers get a KIDS Traverse medal and Mallard ice cream. The KIDS Traverse supports the Stewardship and Education Programs of Recreation Northwest.
